MacBook Pro 13 2020 review and Specifications

(MacBook Pro 13 2020 review)

MacBook Pro 13 (2020):

Rumors are rumors, but Apple did not dare increase the screen in the younger MacBook Pro to 14 inches. The significant changes that the “tag” has already undergone, which has turned into the MacBook Pro 16, will be implemented. In the meantime, we have what we have – a minor update, which is unlikely to be interesting to those who have, say, the MacBook Pro 13 in 2019.

Review MacBook Pro 13 (2020)

Price and release date MacBook Pro 13 (2020):

Mentioning the “silent” format for presenting new Apple products is now even pointless – the company began to present its devices just like that before the pandemic. MacBook Pro 13 (2020) appeared on the company’s website on May 4. In the States, pre-order started almost immediately, and laptop sales will begin in the first half of May.

The laptop appeared on Apple’s, but there’s a “will be available later” label above it. That is, the start date of sales in our country has not yet been determined. But the prices are already known. Of course, Apple could not raise prices for its product.

The basic version of the MacBook Pro 13 (2020) for our market with the eighth generation i5, 8 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of permanent memory will cost 119.9 thousand rubles. For a 512 GB drive with exactly the same configuration, 139.9 thousand rubles will already be asked. A laptop with four Thunderbolt 3 ports, a tenth-generation i5 processor, 16/512 GB already costs 173.9 thousand rubles.

And the maximum (so far) version of the “trinashka” with a terabyte SSD costs already as an airplane wing – 193.9 thousand rubles. But if this is not shocking for you, then in the USA, a version with Core i7 Ice Lake, 32 GB of RAM and 4 TB SSDs is available at a price of $ 3600 (270.7 thousand rubles).

MacBook Pro 13 2020 Screen:

The laptop display remains the same as in the previous generation. This is Retina IPS-matrix with a resolution of 2560 × 1600 pixels, covered with glass. The screen brightness is a solid 500 cd / sq.m. There is support for True Tone technology and the wide color gamut of P3.

Case and keyboard: MacBook Pro 13 2020

As you might have guessed, the linear dimensions and body weight remained unchanged – 304.1 x 212.4 x 15.6 mm at 1.4 kg. The last indicator has not been a record for a long time – in the Windows world, there are “Chinaski” weighing less than a kilo, and laptops with a diagonal of 14 inches fit into the same 1.4 kg.

Of course, the case of the MacBook Pro 13 (2020) is made of aluminum, and the user is unlikely to disassemble it without damaging the device. Of course, the most important innovation in the MacBook Pro 13 of the 2020 model year is the keyboard. Magic Keyboard with an “old-new” scissor mechanism has already been tested by buyers of Air and MacBook Pro 16.

The rejection of the extremely unsuccessful “butterfly,” which thoroughly tarnished Apple’s reputation, clearly benefited laptops from this company. Together with the 65-key Magic Keyboard, the Touch Bar and Touch ID work on the laptop. One of the best trackpads in the glass market Force Touch remained in place.

CPU, memory, communications: MacBook Pro 13 2020

With the configurations of the processors, the new Trinashka is not easy. Notebooks with two Thunderbolt 3 ports can only be equipped with eighth-generation Core i5 chips, or, optionally, i7 all the same 8th Gen. Intel’s new 10nm Ice Lake CPU went to the much more expensive four-port MacBook Pro 13. These are the i5 or i7 quad-core processors.

The same “segregation” is associated with RAM. The younger version received in the “base” 8 GB of RAM made on the slow LPDDR3 2133 MHz. Laptops on new processors have 16 GB of LPDDR4X 3733 MHz RAM.
Finally, Apple, in the basic version of the MacBook Pro 13, has become generous with a 256 GB solid-state drive.

However, the pricing of the internal volume is such that for 512 GB, you will have to pay 20 thousand rubles, so if you want to save, buy external SSDs. In total, the “trinashka” can have up to 4 TB of internal memory. In addition to the already mentioned 5G, which will work only where it is running, the smartphone supports almost all the necessary interfaces: Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and USB-C.

As mentioned above, there are two laptop configurations that differ in the number of Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports – two and four, respectively. Of course, each of them can be used to charge or connect an external video card. What pleases, in place, there was a 3.5 mm audio jack. Of the wireless interfaces, the MacBook Pro 13 (2020) has dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0.

Autonomy:

The battery has not changed in the new generation MacBook Pro 13. These are the same lithium-polymer batteries with a total capacity of 58 (58.2 in a four-port configuration) Wh • h. The manufacturer claims that the laptop will work for 10 hours on a single charge when web browsing or watching streaming video. The 61-W power supply is responsible for charging.
