How to install a Template on Blogger
(How to install a Template on Blogger)This article is dedicated to people who have used the Blogger platform to create their blog. We will see how to customize the design of a blog. To do this, we will see how to find a template, template, which suits us and how to install it.
On the internet, we can find many sites that offer free or premium templates for Blogger blogs.
Just download and install a template to customize the design of your blog.
How to Choose a Good Model for Your Blog:
When looking for a model for his blog, we always have access to demo models that we like. To see a few their features, and what they look like once installed.
At this point, I recommend choosing a responsive template. When we talk about responsive design, we talk about a design that adapts to the size of the screens, which offers a better experience for visitors on smartphones or tablets.
To check if a template is responsive, just play with the size of your browser, and see if the design fits without problems:
The second important point when looking for a design for your blog is to see if the models that we like are loading quickly.
The loading time of a site is important for the user experience, and as such, it is just as important for Google.
Indeed the loading time of websites is one of the many criteria that Google takes into account when positioning sites in search engines.
To know if a model loads quickly, simply use the tool “PageSpeed Insights” Google. You just have to copy/paste the address of the demo blog of your choice, then start the analysis:
Google assigns a rating of 100 to the loading speed
As you can see above, the Google tool assigns a rating of 100 based on the load time of sites analyzed. By clicking on the tab “mobile,” we also get one in 100 depending on the loading time on mobile devices.
The higher the score, the better. It means that the site loads well. Do not expect a 100 out of 100. I would say that an acceptable rating for a site is above 55 for the mobile version and above 70 for the computer version. We can, of course, use a template that takes a lot of time to load, but it will be necessary to think of lightening after that.
Where to Find a New Design for His Blog Blogger:
There are many sites that offer free (or premium) templates for Blogger blogs.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of some sites that offer free and premium models:
- ThemeForest: Hundreds of premium design for Blogger at 21 or 23 dollars each. The basic model of empocher.net was purchased on this site.
- Gooyaabi Templates: which offers more than 1500 free templates.
- Sora Templates: more than 150 free templates for Blogger, of a relatively high overall quality. You can use the models for free, but if you want to have the right to do everything (such as removing the credit link in the footer) and you must buy a license for about $ 7, or a little over 6 euros.
- Themexpose: Offers about fifty free templates of good quality, you can also choose to buy templates for about $ 10, which allows, for example, to remove the link in the footer.
- Etsy: a shop specializing in the hand-made of which some merchants offer templates for Blogger, to find them just search “Template blogger.” The problem is that there is never the demo, so we can not know what a model is before installing it.
- And many more … sites that offer templates for Blogger are legion.
Sometimes, some free models are well worth some paid models. However, the problem with free templates is that often we can not remove the link from the source in the footer and some codes in the models are sometimes encrypted, which can be disturbing.
How to Install a Template on Blogger:
When you have downloaded the Blogger template of your choice, it will be either in a file in .xml format, or a compressed file in .zip format (which will contain among others the .xml file).
If the model you downloaded is in a folder in the .zip format you just have to move it to a new folder (that’s just for the organization) and then unzip it by right-clicking then ” Extract here”:
We decompress the file containing our template
To decompress a .zip file, it may be necessary to download and install the WinRAR software.
Before continuing, it is recommended to make a backup of your old blogger theme, so if there is a problem installing your new design and you can always go back.
To download the backup of a design just go to his manager, Blogger, in “Template,” “Save / Restore” then “Download the full template“:
Then I recommend you go to “Layout,” and remove the installed widgets. This is not mandatory, but some templates sometimes require this action to install properly. When this is the case, it is normally specified in documentation delivered with the template concerned.
Once you have saved your old theme and potentially deleted your old widgets, you can install the new template.
To do this, it’s very simple; just go back to Model> Backup / Restore> then click on “Choose File.” A window will open, and you just have to select the XML file of your new template:
We install the new template
Then just click on “Transfer” and then you’re done :). But it is not finished; it will have to install also the mobile version of your template is responsive.
To do for Responsive templates.
Under blogger, blogs have a version dedicated to mobile devices: http://www.example.com/?m=1.
If you are on the computer and you add the small “/? M = 1” (or “/? M = 0, it depends on the blogs) following the address of your blog (or while you go on your blog with a smartphone, which is simpler), you should see a blog all-white that displays your articles but does not display your design.
To remedy this – and thus make sure that the design just installed is displayed on mobile – just go to Model> Customize a mobile model:
A window will open, and there are two solutions available to you.
Honestly, I can not tell you which of the two to choose; I do not know at all if it can be important in terms of SEO.
Regarding the theme that I am installing at the same time as I write this tutorial, the first solution offers me more satisfactory results concerning the design. However, the second solution gives me a shorter loading time on mobile. So this choice depends on everyone …
The first solution is to disable the mobile version:
And the second solution is to check the box “Yes […]” and select “Customize”:
Customize the mobile template of his blog Blogger
So, it’s up to you to see which of the two solutions offers you better results.
The model of my blog did not install correctly!
This paragraph is only for those who have had problems installing their design.
If this is not your case, you can skip this paragraph directly.
If your design did not install correctly, it could come from three reasons:
1- The design you have chosen goes back to times so old that it is no longer usable today (it never happened to me, but I imagine it is possible). In this case, you must choose another.
2- Before loading your new template, you did not delete the widgets (in layout) that were installed. In this case, remove all the widgets and try to reload the template of your choice again.
3- Some templates must be added using a copy/paste to work properly. In this case, just open the XML file in a notepad for example:
We open the XML file …
You will then see the source code of the template you want to install. Right-click, then “Select All“, then “copy“:
… then copy all the source code it contains
Then, on your Blogger manager, you go to “Template” then “Edit the HTML code,” then erase all the codes you see to paste the codes you just copied:
We replace the old code with the new
Then you click on “Save Template” and there normally everything should work properly.
If, however, you can not solve your problem, then it is better to load the old theme (which I recommended you to save) in the meantime, then to go in search of another template that would suit you.
