LG Q9: review and specifications

LG has been preparing a budget version of its flagship G7 ThinQ for a long time. The Q9 model is very similar to its older brother: a cutout at the top, a rather wide “chin”. KP is figuring out what else to expect from the upcoming device of the South Korean company.

LG Q9 review

Screen

The LG Q9 has a completely similar screen to the LG G7 Fit. This is a 6.1-inch IPS-matrix with a resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels. The aspect ratio of the FullVision-screen is a fashionable 19.5: 9, in place and a large screen “bangs”, although competitors are already abandoning it. But there is a software option to hide the cutout.

Housing

One of the main features of the device is its protection from physical impact. The LG Q9 case is dust and water resistant according to the IP68 standard. In practical terms, this means that the smartphone can withstand a submersion of 1 m and lie under water for up to 30 minutes. But that’s not all – the LG chassis is certified according to the military MIL-STD-810G standard for impact resistance.

But looking at the smartphone it is difficult to understand that we have a protected device – thin side screen frames and a metal cover with a fingerprint scanner. The phone is offered in three colors – black, red and blue.

Processor, memory, communications

When you find out on which processor the novelty of the beginning of 2019 is running, you get the feeling that the South Korean company has opened a portal to the past. Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 was introduced in 2016, but for some unknown reason, this very chip is installed in the LG Q9. But the old flagship processor is still quite powerful – 4 Kryo cores can run at 2.4 GHz. And the Adreno 530 video accelerator is still capable of delivering maximum graphics in mobile games.

The main difference between LG Q9 and the “twin” G7 Fit is the amount of built-in storage, which reaches 64 GB versus 32 GB. RAM – 4 GB.

The flagship past of the chipset has also defined the smartphone’s set of communications – dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth support for the latest protocol, and advanced navigation. Unlike some Chinese manufacturers, the Koreans did not save money and added NFC support to the mid-range device. The other good news is that the LG Q9 has a USB Type-C connector and a 3.5mm audio jack at the same time.

Camera

Cameras LG Q9 give in the device some obsolescence. The main one is only one, with a resolution of 16 megapixels. But on the other hand, there is phase autofocus, and AI algorithms are used in image processing. The 8MP front camera is just there, the manufacturer does not report any specifics about it.

Battery

The battery of the device has a small capacity of 3000 mAh. It is unlikely that with active use, the smartphone will survive even 1.5 days. But the LG Q9 can be recharged quickly as it supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.

What could be the LG Q9

According to experts, the announcement of the smartphone may take place at the end of 2018, or at the beginning of 2019. About what event or exhibition the device may be presented at, nothing is known yet.

If LG wants to capitalize on traditionally higher demand during the holiday Christmas season, the device should hit the shelves very soon.

LG Q9 price

The price of the device has not yet been announced, but since the Q series usually fits into the mid-range price category, we can assume that the Q9 will cost about $ 350 (about 23 thousand rubles).

LG Q9 specifications

Since September, rumors have been circulating about the specs and intended design of the Q9. Early renders showed a phone very similar to the earlier Q6 and Q7 in terms of looks – a tall 18: 9 display with side bezels that are already considered thick by today’s standards. However, the latest Q9 leak suggests we will see something radically different: a design that is almost identical to the LG G7 ThinQ – two ultra-thin side panels, a slightly thicker chin and a notch at the top that houses the phone’s earpiece, front-facing camera and array of sensors. In fact, the only observable difference between the two phones is that there is no separate Google Assistant button on the left side of the Q9.

The smartphone is likely to be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor with 8 Kryo 260 processing cores (up to 2.2 GHz) and an Adreno 512 graphics accelerator. The chip contains an X12 LTE cellular modem with a data transfer rate of up to 600 Mbps. The processor is paired with 4GB of RAM and the option to use 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. However, regardless of which model you choose, it can be expanded using microSD cards.

Screen Q9, according to some reports, will be with a diagonal of 6.1 inches and resolution Full HD +. It is also known that the device will have a rather large 3550mAh battery and, unfortunately, run on the outdated Android 8.1 Oreo.

The fingerprint scanner will be located on the back panel, and an NFC adapter is provided.
